Dominic Santos, 36, of Pawtucket Identified as Man Killed After Walking Into I-95 North Traffic Multiple Times Near Exit 40, Former Bristol Community College Basketball Player and Father

Rhode Island State Police have identified the man killed in a pedestrian crash on I-95 North in Pawtucket Sunday night as 36-year-old Dominic Santos, a Pawtucket resident and former Bristol Community College basketball player remembered by those who knew him as a great person and friend.

What Happened

According to Rhode Island State Police, troopers from the Lincoln Woods Barracks received multiple 911 calls just before 10 p.m. Sunday reporting a pedestrian walking in the travel lanes of Route 95 North near the Exit 40 off-ramp in Pawtucket. The crash occurred around 9:54 p.m.

When troopers arrived, they found several vehicles stopped in the right breakdown lane and located a deceased man in the center lane. All of the drivers involved remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. State police said highway video showed Santos walking into the travel lanes multiple times before he was struck.

No citations or criminal charges have been brought against any of the drivers involved.

Remembering Dominic Santos

Santos graduated from Bristol Community College in 2020 with a degree in Behavioral and Social Sciences, where he also played on the basketball team. His coach said he always put the team first. He went on to attend Rhode Island College. Those who knew him described him as a great person and friend, and he leaves behind a young son.
