Belmont Cameli has been cast opposite Sydney Sweeney in Hollow, Sony Pictures’ upcoming reimagining of Washington Irving’s classic tale The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The project is written and directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer, based on her forthcoming debut novel of the same name.
A New Take on a Classic Story
Rather than centering the story on schoolteacher Ichabod Crane, Hollow shifts its focus to Katrina Van Tassel, played by Sweeney, positioning her as the central figure rather than a romantic prize to be won. In this version, Van Tassel finds herself at the heart of a dangerous mystery and a seductive supernatural love triangle, with the story blending gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue, and erotic thriller elements into a contemporary, high-concept reinvention of the original tale.
Cameli will play Brom Bones, one of the key figures in that triangle. Casting for the role of Ichabod Crane is still ongoing.
Beer’s novel, on which the film is based, sold to Putnam — an imprint of Penguin Random House — following a highly competitive bidding process and is set for global publication, with translations planned at launch, in fall 2027. Beer is adapting her own book for the screen and will also direct.
Behind the Camera
Hollow is being produced by Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment alongside Sydney Sweeney’s newly launched Honey Trap banner, marking Honey Trap’s first feature as a producing entity. Beer is also producing through her own company, Lab Brew. Alexandra Banks and Spencer Walken will serve as executive producers.
Honey Trap, which has Kaylee McGregor serving as President of Production and Development, recently announced a first-look deal with Sony Pictures. Beer’s Lab Brew, separately, holds a first-look deal with Paramount Skydance.
Deadline was first to report both the project and Cameli’s casting, noting that producers moved quickly to lock down the two leads at the center of the love triangle given Sweeney’s busy schedule — landing Cameli for the role of Bones while the search for Ichabod Crane continues.
The Talent Involved
Cameli is coming off a breakout role in the hit Prime Video series Off Campus, which drew roughly 36 million viewers in its first 12 days of streaming. He has also recently appeared in Until Dawn and The Alto Knights. He’s represented by Gersh, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Viewpoint, and Hansen Jacobson.
Sweeney was most recently seen opposite Amanda Seyfried in Lionsgate’s adaptation of the bestselling novel The Housemaid, a box office success that led to the greenlighting of its sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret. She also recently took on one of the most transformative roles of her career, starring as boxer Christy Martin in Christy, the David Michôd-directed film for Black Bear Pictures, which she also produced to critical praise. Sweeney is represented by Brillstein Entertainment Partners, CAA, and Hansen Jacobson.
Beer previously directed the Stephen King adaptation Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, which premiered at Fantastic Fest and set viewership records for Paramount+. She also wrote and executive produced the Cyrano de Bergerac retelling Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, which debuted at No. 1 globally on Netflix and produced the chart-topping original song “Sunflower,” which Beer co-wrote. She’s represented by WME, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Gang Tyre Ramer Brown.
What’s Next
No release date has been announced for Hollow. Between its female-led reimagining of a literary classic, Sweeney’s star power, and Beer’s growing reputation in gothic horror, the project has quickly become one of the more closely watched adaptations currently in development.
