Mackayla “Kash” Paige, a 29-year-old reality TV personality from Richmond, California, died after being shot early Sunday, October 11, 2026, on the 200 block of 14th Street in downtown Oakland, according to her family and KTVU. Oakland police say a Richmond woman has been arrested in connection with the shooting, but have not released her name, the charges, or a motive. The Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Section is investigating.
Mackayla Paige spent Saturday night posting about having a good time. By early Sunday morning, her family and fans were mourning her.
What Happened in Downtown Oakland
Oakland police received calls about gunfire shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday on the 200 block of 14th Street, near 14th and Harrison streets. Officers arrived and found Paige, a Richmond resident, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. First responders tried to save her at the scene before taking her to a hospital, where she later died, according to her family and KTVU.
Police have arrested a woman from Richmond in connection with the shooting. As of Monday morning, authorities had not released her name, specific charges, or a clear motive, and the case is being investigated by the Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Section. As with any arrest, the woman is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. Video on TikTok showed a large police presence outside a lounge close to the shooting location, KTVU reported.
Claims Circulating Online
Some accounts on social media claim Paige had been out when a one-on-one fight escalated into a larger altercation, and that she was accidentally shot by someone trying to use a gun. Some of those accounts say that person was her best friend, while others say it was her sister. Neither claim has been confirmed by police, and the identity of the woman arrested and her relationship, if any, to Paige have not been released.
Video of the aftermath has also circulated widely online, and many viewers have criticized the people nearby who were filming rather than helping.
Who Was Kash
Paige was known to fans as Kash from the digital network Now That’s TV, where she appeared on reality shows including “Young & Reckless,” “RoomH8z,” and “Real West Coast Baddies.” The network, a streaming platform founded by entrepreneur Teleau Belton and known for unfiltered reality programming, shared a tribute mourning her death.
Relatives and friends set up a makeshift memorial near the shooting site on Sunday, describing her as outgoing, fun-loving, and someone who loved the spotlight. Her cousin, Nicky Clayton, told KTVU that Paige had visited family before the shooting. Clayton said Paige had worked as a model for several companies and dreamed of becoming a reality TV star, opening her own business, and working as a makeup artist.
A friend, who goes by Poodahh and has a tattoo on his hand dedicated to her, spoke about her drive. “I’m sorry for our loss, because she’s a star,” he said.
A Violent Night in a City That Had Seen Progress
The shooting came only months after Oakland officials celebrated a major drop in violence, with the city recording its lowest number of homicides in 2025 since 1967.
How to Help
Oakland police are asking anyone with information, photos, or video related to the shooting to contact the department’s Homicide Section or its tip line, or to email [email protected].
