Police in Nairobi are investigating the suspected murder of Feruz Hussein, a 21-year-old woman who was reportedly suffocated with a pillow by her boyfriend following a domestic dispute. The suspect, identified in reports as Nelson Ambia, is also accused of recording the incident and sending the video to her family. No arrest has been widely confirmed, and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has offered a KSh 50,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
A family in Nairobi is grieving a daughter and sister, and a nationwide search for answers is underway. Kenyan police are investigating the death of Feruz Hussein, 21, as a suspected murder, after reports that she was suffocated by her boyfriend in a house in the Githurai-Sunton area of Nairobi.
What Police Records Show
The case was reported at Sunton Police Station in Kasarani Sub-County on September 30, 2026, under Occurrence Book (OB) number 37. Documents seen by Citizen Digital, including a police report acknowledgement and a letter addressed to a mortuary superintendent, indicate that the death was reported to the station as a suspected murder.
The mortuary admission letter identifies Hussein as the deceased and states that her body was recovered from a house in the Githurai-Sunton area. The document also lists the matter as a police case, pending a postmortem examination and burial arrangements. The postmortem, which is expected to determine the cause of death, has not yet been made public.
Police have not released further official details beyond confirming the ongoing probe.
The Allegations Against the Boyfriend
According to reports, Hussein’s boyfriend, identified as Nelson Ambia, is accused of killing her with a pillow after a domestic dispute. He is also alleged to have recorded the incident and sent the video to her family. That video has circulated on social media, though its authenticity has not been independently verified, and it has drawn a strong public reaction, with many Kenyans demanding swift justice.
Mike Sonko, the former Nairobi governor, added further allegations in a public social media post. According to Sonko, Ambia also threatened Hussein’s two younger siblings, who are aged 19 and 15. Those claims come from Sonko and have not been confirmed by police. Ambia has not been charged, and no court has made any finding against him.
KSh 50,000 Reward and a Warning
Sonko has publicly offered a reward of KSh 50,000 to anyone whose credible information leads to Ambia’s arrest. “I am offering KSh 50,000 to anyone whose credible information leads to his arrest,” he stated.
The former governor claimed that Ambia was recently spotted in Kakamega County and appealed to members of the public to help trace him. Crucially, he urged anyone with information to report it to the nearest police station rather than attempt to confront the suspect. No arrests have been widely confirmed in initial reports.
A Public Demanding Answers
The reported video has fueled outrage across Kenyan social media, where the case has been amplified by calls for the authorities to act quickly. For the family, the situation has been compounded by the alleged threats against Hussein’s younger siblings, adding fear to their grief.
Investigators will now be expected to move on several fronts: completing the postmortem, tracing and arresting the suspect, and securing the evidence circulating online. Until police release an official account, key questions remain unanswered, including the exact circumstances of Hussein’s death and the whereabouts of the man named as the suspect.
