ALABAMA — An Oklahoma father’s decision to take his two young daughters into a women’s restroom during a road trip has sparked a national debate after another customer allegedly confronted him and called police over the situation.
The father, Tyler Brodsky, said he was traveling from Florida back to Oklahoma when he stopped at a QuikTrip in Alabama so his daughters could use the restroom.
Brodsky said he made the decision to use an empty women’s restroom because he did not feel comfortable taking his young daughters into a men’s restroom occupied by adult men.
What should have been a routine bathroom stop quickly turned into a confrontation that was captured on video and later went viral on TikTok.
The man who confronted Brodsky was identified as Robert Buckner, a Starkville, Mississippi native and owner of the commercial lighting company Lights & Ballasts.
The video has reportedly generated more than 13 million views, with viewers debating whether Brodsky made the appropriate decision and whether Buckner’s response was justified.
Father confronted while helping daughters in restroom
In the viral video, Brodsky can be seen inside the women’s restroom with his daughters as they wash their hands and faces.
One of the children appears visibly upset during the confrontation.
Buckner can be heard calling police and telling a dispatcher that a man was inside the women’s restroom with two young girls.
“There is a man with two little girls using the women’s bathroom,” Buckner told the dispatcher. “He’s washing his hands with his daughters right now.”

QuikTrip employee intervenes
The situation became tense enough that a QuikTrip employee stepped in.
The employee reportedly closed the restroom door and intervened between Buckner and Brodsky, while also apologizing to the father and his children.
Buckner reportedly argued that Brodsky had no reason to be inside the women’s restroom.
He suggested that Brodsky should instead have asked a female QuikTrip employee to accompany his daughters into the restroom.
Brodsky disagreed with that reasoning, explaining that his primary concern was making sure his young children could use the bathroom safely.
The encounter ultimately drew the attention of local police.
Police respond after restroom dispute
Three officers reportedly responded to the QuikTrip following Buckner’s call.
According to Brodsky, the officers told him that he had not committed an offense by accompanying his young daughters into the women’s restroom.
Brodsky later explained that the officers recognized the difficult situation parents can face when traveling alone with children of the opposite sex.
“The officers let me know I was OK,” Brodsky said.
He also explained that taking his daughters into a men’s restroom could potentially have created a different set of concerns.
Ultimately, Brodsky said officers instructed Buckner to leave the premises.
No arrest or criminal charge against Brodsky was reported in connection with the incident.
QuikTrip employees comforted Brodsky’s daughters
Following the confrontation, Brodsky said QuikTrip employees went out of their way to make his daughters feel comfortable.
According to the father, employees gave the children free Icees after the incident in an effort to help calm them down.
Brodsky praised both the responding officers and QuikTrip staff for how they handled the situation.
For him, the most important issue was not the argument itself, but the effect it had on his children.
