A homicide investigation is underway in Simpson County, Mississippi, after authorities found 25-year-old Gramico Womack Jr. shot to death inside the trunk of a parked vehicle Tuesday morning, September 15.
What Happened
According to authorities, a passerby alerted law enforcement at about 6:30 a.m. after noticing a 2025 white Nissan Sentra parked with its engine running on Goshen Road near Highway 541 North. Magee Police Department officers responded and discovered blood near the vehicle’s rear trunk area. When they opened the trunk in an attempt to provide medical assistance, they found Womack deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
Simpson County Sheriff Paul Mullins confirmed Womack’s identity as investigators continue working to determine how he ended up inside the vehicle and what led to the shooting.
What Investigators Believe
Sheriff Mullins said investigators believe the shooting was targeted rather than random, describing it as an isolated incident tied to a dispute between specific individuals rather than a random act of violence.
“I would say it is an isolated incident between certain people that are beefing over something. I would say it’s not a random shooting. It is targeted shootings,” Mullins said. “We’re working diligently to run down anything we can get, but we have to have people’s help with this because somebody saw something. Somebody knows something, and if they have something they need to let us know so we can put these people, hold them accountable for this heinous act.”
Investigators believe an altercation may have occurred before Womack’s death. Authorities have not announced a suspect or confirmed a motive, and the investigation remains active.
