Carson Dean Barry, a 23-year-old South Carolina social media influencer, has been arrested and charged with five counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of criminal solicitation of a minor, according to the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office. The investigation began after a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Barry was released on $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court October 30, 2026. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
A tip to a national child safety hotline has led to criminal charges against a South Carolina social media personality, following a monthslong investigation involving multiple state and federal agencies.
How the Investigation Began
According to the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, detectives were led to Barry after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigators allege that Barry solicited a minor for sex and possessed digital files containing child sexual abuse material.
The case was investigated jointly by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, and the state’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The Search and Seized Devices
Authorities searched Barry’s home in Mount Pleasant on August 20 and seized a computer tower and two iPhones, according to court records. Investigators allege one of the phones contained a video, approximately 12 seconds long, depicting the sexual abuse of a young child. Investigators say the phone was linked to Barry through an iCloud account associated with him.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Barry faces five counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of criminal solicitation of a minor. Each count carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, meaning Barry could face up to 60 years in prison if convicted and sentenced to the maximum on every count.
Barry was arrested and booked into the Charleston County Jail on September 10, 2026. His total bond was set at $1 million, and he was released on September 13 after posting bond. As a condition of his release, Barry was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim, whether directly, electronically, or through a third party.
He is scheduled to appear in court on October 30, 2026. The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.
