Prime Video has renewed Reacher for a sixth season, handing the Alan Ritchson-led action drama an early pickup just 12 days after its Season 4 finale — and only four months after Season 5 was ordered. It’s the first time in the show’s run that it has received two renewals in the same calendar year.
A Franchise Still Breaking Records
Season 4, based on Lee Child’s novel Gone Tomorrow, wrapped its eight-episode run on September 16 after premiering August 12. According to Amazon, it reached more than 66 million viewers globally within its first 28 days — a figure that places it among the top five most-viewed seasons of any original series in Prime Video’s history, alongside the first seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout.
Season 4 also outperformed Season 3, bucking a broader industry trend of declining streaming viewership. Seasons 2, 4, and 3, in that order, now rank as the most-viewed returning seasons in Prime Video history. More than half of Season 4’s audience, 58%, came from outside the US, with particularly strong performance in the UK, Germany, and Brazil. Domestically, the season logged five consecutive weeks with over a billion minutes viewed on Nielsen’s streaming rankings, including a peak week of 1.18 billion minutes, and finished No. 1 in four of those five weeks.
Since its 2022 debut, Reacher has drawn more than 200 million viewers worldwide, and the franchise has expanded further with spinoff series Neagley, starring Maria Sten, which recently released its first season and appears well-positioned for a second.

Where the Story Goes Next
Season 5, adapted from Child’s novel Make Me, began filming in Toronto in late July, having already been largely written by the time it received its greenlight in May. The season follows Reacher as he arrives in the small town of Mother’s Rest and teams up with a private investigator to uncover a dangerous criminal conspiracy.
No source novel or plot details have been confirmed yet for Season 6. Ritchson, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, has said on social media that Die Trying is his favorite book in the franchise, adding that it had been approved as a potential future season before those plans changed.

The series is written by Nick Santora, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Lee Child, Alan Ritchson, Don Granger, Scott Sullivan, Mick Betancourt, Lisa Kussner, Sam Hill, Amy Pocha, and Seth Cohen. Carolyn Harris and Kenny Madrid serve as executives-in-charge for Paramount Television Studios, with the series produced jointly by Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios.
With Season 5 currently in production and Season 6 already locked in, Reacher looks set to remain one of Prime Video’s flagship franchises for the foreseeable future.
