Hana Kuraki, 25, Japanese Adult Film Actress, Found Dead in Suspected Suicide in Tokyo’s Kabukicho District Amid Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Host Shota Taira

Hana Kuraki, a 25-year-old Japanese adult video actress, was found dead Saturday in an apartment in Tokyo’s Kabukicho district in what is being treated as a suspected suicide. Police and her management agency have not released an official cause of death. Serious allegations of domestic violence and hush-money settlements involving a prominent local host have circulated online but remain unverified.

Hana Kuraki’s death has set off a wave of grief, speculation, and unverified allegations across Japanese social media — a combination that’s made it difficult to separate what’s actually known from what’s being claimed.

What Is Confirmed So Far

Kuraki was found dead Saturday in an apartment in Kabukicho, Tokyo’s red-light district, according to the Tokyo Reporter. She was reportedly discovered by a friend. Police and Kuraki’s management agency have not released an official statement on her cause of death.

Sakito, a Kabukicho bar owner and BreakingDown fighter who was present at the scene, addressed the death directly in a lengthy social media post, offering condolences and correcting earlier claims that he was the one who found her body.

“I am deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the passing of Hana Kuraki. I offer my sincere condolences,” Sakito wrote. According to his account, one of Kuraki’s friends discovered her and called him, and he went to the apartment to help manage the situation with arriving police.

Sakito said the apartment was rented under the name of Shota Taira, a well-known host affiliated with the L’s Collection group in Kabukicho. He said he called Taira to inform him of Kuraki’s death, and that Taira replied he had a meeting and would be roughly two hours late to the scene, leaving Sakito to handle the initial response with police.

Sakito said Kuraki had confided in him previously about a difficult relationship, though he did not go into specifics in his public statement. “I pray for a world where people who dominate through violence and corner others like this no longer exist,” he wrote, while also urging the public not to spread rumors or speculation about her death: “I hope that no further harm comes to the deceased or those around her through misinformation or speculation.”

Unverified Allegations Circulating Online

Separately from Sakito’s firsthand account, anonymous posts online — described as coming from a “whistleblower” — have alleged a pattern of serious abuse. These claims, which have not been verified by police or any official source, allege that injuries Kuraki attributed to a June “traffic accident” were actually caused when Taira accelerated a vehicle while she was attempting to get in, and that leaked documents show out-of-court settlements tied to assault and theft allegations, along with a written apology from Taira.

None of this has been confirmed by authorities, Taira, or any verified party. It is presented here only as an account circulating publicly, not as established fact.

At the time, Kuraki had announced the injuries publicly in far more limited terms. “I’ve decided to take a break for a while, so I’ll be suspending activities for a certain period,” she wrote on X in June, citing facial and jaw injuries from what she described as a traffic accident.

Her Career

Kuraki, from Kanagawa Prefecture, debuted as an exclusive actress with the major adult label S1 in May 2024, after previously working in hair and makeup following beauty school. She built a following quickly, released a well-received photobook, and had been scheduled to appear at the Taiwan Adult Expo in 2026.

A Wider Pattern the Industry Is Still Fighting

Kuraki’s death, and the allegations swirling around it, have reignited scrutiny of Japan’s host club industry. Revisions to the country’s Adult Entertainment Business Law in 2025 introduced steep fines aimed at stopping hosts from manipulating clients’ romantic feelings to run up debt and push them toward the sex industry — but critics say the underlying dynamics of financial and emotional control remain deeply entrenched.

Taira, 29, is described as one of the most prominent figures in that world: a former idol turned host who reportedly earned more than 200 million yen in his first year and topped his group’s earnings in 2025, recently profiled on AbemaTV as the standout among 1,700 hosts nationwide.
