Crystal Palace booked their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night, extending their positive record at the west London stadium.
Eddie Nketiah scored the decisive first-half goal to give the Eagles a narrow win in a competitive fourth-round encounter, with Palace showing defensive discipline to hold off Fulham’s attempts to get back into the match.
Eddie Nketiah Fires Crystal Palace Ahead
The breakthrough came in the 37th minute when Crystal Palace launched a swift counter-attack that caught Fulham on the back foot. Nketiah finished clinically following a cross from Óscar Mingueza, putting the visitors ahead and giving them a lead they would protect until the final whistle.
The goal proved to be the difference between the two London sides, with Palace making the most of their opportunity in front of goal.
Fulham Push for an Equaliser
Fulham enjoyed more possession and looked to take control of the contest, particularly after the interval. The hosts created several opportunities as they searched for an equaliser, but they struggled to turn their attacking pressure into a goal.
Crystal Palace remained organised at the back, defended resolutely and restricted Fulham’s clear-cut chances. Their disciplined performance ensured that Nketiah’s first-half strike was enough to settle the tie.
Despite Fulham’s efforts to force their way back into the match, Palace held firm to secure progression to the next round.
Crystal Palace Extend Positive Record at Craven Cottage
The victory provided another successful visit to Craven Cottage for Crystal Palace, a record the club highlighted in a post celebrating the result: “Yet another win at Craven Cottage.”
For the Eagles, the result represents an important step in their Carabao Cup campaign. Winning a tightly contested away fixture demonstrated their ability to defend a lead and find a way through difficult cup matches.
Eagles Turn Attention to Quarter-Finals
Crystal Palace will now await the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw as they continue their campaign in the competition alongside their Premier League commitments.
Nketiah’s decisive finish and Palace’s defensive resilience secured a place in the last eight, while Fulham were left to reflect on missed opportunities after failing to make their possession count.
The 1-0 result underlined the importance of taking chances in knockout football, with Crystal Palace advancing after producing the decisive moment and protecting their advantage.
