Greenacres Plane Crash: Nine Killed as Learjet 60 Plunges Into Palm Beach County Roadway Near Military Trail, Including Texas Tech Entrepreneur Adam Robinson, Wife Helen Sharp, Their Two Young Children and 20-Year-Old Co-Pilot Nathalia Gadelha; NTSB Says Jet May Have Broken Up Before Impact

The Greenacres plane crash on Sunday, November 1, killed all nine people aboard a private Learjet 60 that fell into a roadway in Palm Beach County, Florida. A joint statement from relatives identified the passengers as Texas tech entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp, their two young children, the children’s caregiver and two friends. The family of 20-year-old co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha also identified her. The NTSB says there is “some indication that the aircraft was breaking up before impact,” and has not determined a cause.

The Greenacres plane crash turned a quiet Sunday afternoon into an emergency in a residential area of Palm Beach County. A private jet carrying a family, their caregiver, two friends and two pilots went down near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, sending up a fireball, scattering debris and forcing nearby residents to evacuate.

What Happened to the Learjet 60

The Learjet 60, tail number N722BD, left Austin, Texas, at about 10:37 a.m. on Sunday, bound for the Bahamas. Shortly before 12:50 p.m. EDT, it crashed in Greenacres, near Lake Worth Beach.

According to reports of the air traffic control recordings, the crew told controllers they were dealing with icing and turbulence while cruising at about 35,000 feet and asked to climb. Less than 30 seconds later, a Mayday call went out. “We are in an overspeed condition, descending 20,000 feet per minute,” a voice says in recordings reported by multiple outlets, including audio from LiveATC.net. The final transmission reported was “We’re going to crash into the ground, 722 Bravo Delta.”

Reports say a male voice, believed to be the captain’s, can be heard reciting the Lord’s Prayer on the recording in the moments before the crash. Investigators have not publicly confirmed who is speaking on the audio.

The aircraft hit the ground at around 12:50 p.m., creating a large crater beside the road. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called it a “cataclysmic plane crash.” “It looked like a missile going down,” he said. “It left a big crater on the side of the road.”

Who Was on Board

A joint statement from relatives, posted on Facebook on Monday, named the passengers as Adam Robinson, 44, a Texas technology entrepreneur; his wife, Helen Sharp; their children Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2; Anita Maria Cetina, who cared for the children; and family friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr.

The two crew members were the co-pilot, Nathalia Gadelha, 20, whose family identified her, and the captain, identified by TMZ as 55-year-old Jeff Gregory. Authorities had not yet released the identities of everyone on board when those reports emerged.

Gadelha’s stepfather, Thiago Corteleti, told the New York Post that she texted her boyfriend, also a pilot, at about 12:40 p.m. and that the crash happened about 10 minutes later. “She just said, ‘I’ve got turbulence, I’ve got ice,'” he said. Reports say she had logged about 1,300 flight hours over nine months as a commercial pilot.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed hours after the crash that all nine people on board had died.

What the NTSB Has Said

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation, with the Federal Aviation Administration assisting. At a news conference in West Palm Beach on Monday, NTSB board member Tom Chapman said there was “some indication that the aircraft was breaking up before impact” and that parts may be found “some distance away from the actual impact site.” Investigator Timothy Monville said icing is among the factors under investigation, and debris was spread across an area of about 1.2 miles.

Investigators have not determined an official cause. The NTSB asked anyone with photos or video of the crash to email [email protected] and urged the public not to disturb debris.

Impact on the Community

The crash damaged electrical infrastructure and forced residents of 77 nearby mobile homes to evacuate. A man on the ground was injured. Palm Beach County Mayor Sara Baxter declared a county emergency.

A Family and a Crew Remembered

For the Robinson family and the loved ones of everyone on the flight, the loss is immense. The children’s grandfather spoke of the devastating impact of losing four members of his immediate family at once.

What Comes Next

The NTSB will examine the wreckage, flight path, air traffic records and weather conditions, including the icing and turbulence the crew reported. A preliminary report typically follows within weeks, though the agency has not announced a date. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
