Oscar Bobb scored his first goal for Fulham with a brilliant solo run and finish, settling a five-goal thriller at the London Stadium and sending Fulham through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 3-2 win over West Ham.
Tribute to Ludek Miklosko Sets an Emotional Tone
Before kickoff, West Ham fans paid tribute to former goalkeeper Ludek Miklosko, who died of cancer at 64. Miklosko made nearly 400 appearances for the club between 1990 and 1998, and the pre-match tribute set an emotional backdrop for a match that went on to deliver plenty of drama of its own.
Both managers named strong lineups for the tie. West Ham, now playing in the Championship following relegation and with several players from that relegation-season squad still in the starting XI, more than held their own against their Premier League opponents for long stretches of the match.
First-Half Goal Rush
Fulham struck first in the 13th minute. Antonee Robinson was left with too much room down the left, and no one tracked the overlapping run of Cesar Palacios, who picked out an unmarked Rodrigo Muniz to head home and put Fulham ahead.
West Ham needed only three minutes to respond. The hosts failed to clear a corner, and the loose ball fell to Arne Engels, whose cross to the back post was headed back across goal by Konstantinos Mavropanos for Morato to turn in and level the score at 1-1.
Fulham regained the lead just before the half-hour mark. Kyle Walker-Peters made a last-ditch tackle to deny Palacios a clean run on goal, but the reprieve was brief — within a minute, Palacios pounced on a long ball over the top after West Ham’s defense parted too easily, and finished coolly past goalkeeper Finlay Herrick to make it 2-1 in the 37th minute.
Muniz nearly extended Fulham’s lead in the final minute of the first half, but young goalkeeper Herrick — playing just his second senior appearance — raced off his line to deny him. West Ham leveled the score instead with the final action of the half: Mohamadou Kante’s clever back-heel was well saved by Benjamin Lecomte, but Fulham couldn’t clear their lines, and Pablo arrived at a tight angle to slam home the rebound for his first goal for the club, making it 2-2 at halftime.
A Tighter Second Half — Until Bobb’s Moment
The second half was far more cagey than the first. West Ham came close to snatching the lead through substitute Jarrod Bowen, who crossed for Pablo but saw the forward narrowly fail to make contact, and later set up Konstantinos Mavropanos with an inswinging corner that the defender headed just wide from six yards out.
With the tie looking increasingly likely to go to penalties, Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa turned to his bench. Substitute Oscar Bobb needed less than 10 minutes to make an impact, producing a lovely jinking run through West Ham’s defense before finishing at the near post in the 78th minute to put Fulham back in front, 3-2.
Fulham still had to defend that lead. Timothy Castagne produced a crucial late goal-line clearance to deny Taty Castellanos an equalizer and preserve the win in the closing stages.

The victory ended a winless start to the season for Alvaro Arbeloa as Fulham manager and sends his side through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. For West Ham, the result ended a six-match unbeaten run for the Championship leaders, who pushed for a leveler until the final whistle but couldn’t find one.
