Chavarría completed his £16.7 million move from Rayo Vallecano in August, and he’s made no secret of how much the transfer means to him.

He also gave fans a sense of what to expect from his playing style going forward. “As a person, I’m very friendly. As a player, I love to attack, to defend and go box-to-box. I have a lot of intensity and energy on the pitch. These are my main abilities.”
Chavarría, who spent his entire career in Spain before the move, credited Xabi Alonso directly for bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
“I’ve played in Spain all my life, but the Premier League is the best league in the world right now. There is a lot of quality and intensity, so I think it is the best league for me,” he said. “I’ve already spoken with Xabi Alonso. I’m here thanks to him. He is one of the best coaches out there right now, and he was also one of the best footballers. It is an honour to be here playing under him.”
Chelsea will need more performances like this one, result aside, if they’re going to turn a rough start to the season around after the break.
