Monroe County deputies were dispatched to a home in the 1200 block of Raintree Boulevard in Monroe Township at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, following reports of an assault and a house fire.

Upon arriving, deputies found multiple people suffering from cuts and stab wounds. Trenton Grant, a 15-year-old Monroe High School sophomore, died at the scene.

His mother, Rachel Grant, was among those injured and was taken to a hospital. His stepfather was also injured in the attack.

Tyson Grant Faces Six Felony Charges

The Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office filed six charges against Tyson Grant: one count of open murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of carjacking and one count of assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer.

Prosecutors say Grant also sustained injuries and is hospitalized in Lucas County, Ohio. They are seeking to have him extradited to Monroe after he is discharged.

The charges carry serious potential penalties, with open murder exposing Grant to life in prison if he is convicted. The case remains a devastating family tragedy, with the loss of a teenage boy and injuries to other members of his household.

On Wednesday, Monroe High School honored Trenton alongside another student, 18-year-old Garrett Siffer, who died in a single-vehicle crash the previous Thursday.

The school community is now coping with the loss of two students in separate tragedies within days of each other. For those who knew Trenton, his interests in sports and music remain part of the memories they hold of him.

As the criminal case moves forward, the Monroe community continues to mourn Trenton and support those affected by the deadly incident on Raintree Boulevard.

Investigation and Extradition Proceedings

Tyson Grant remains hospitalized in Lucas County, Ohio, and prosecutors are seeking his return to Monroe after his discharge so the case can proceed.
