Kenneth Andrew Latroy Lomax, 36, Found Shot Dead in Front Yard on Quinn Street in Anderson County, South Carolina; Coroner and Sheriff’s Office Investigating as Homicide, No Arrests Announced

Anderson County, South Carolina, officials are investigating the death of Kenneth Andrew Latroy Lomax, 36, as a homicide after he was found dead from a gunshot wound in the front yard of a home on Quinn Street on Thursday, October 29. The Anderson County Coroner’s Office identified Lomax and ruled his cause of death a gunshot wound. No arrests have been announced, and no motive has been released.

The Anderson County homicide investigation began in the middle of a Thursday afternoon, when what was first reported as a medical emergency turned out to be a death investigation. Here is what officials and neighbors have said so far.

What Happened on Quinn Street

Officials say they were called to a home in the 100 block of Quinn Street at about 12:20 p.m. Thursday for a person in cardiac arrest. When responders arrived, they found a man dead in the front yard.

According to Anderson County Chief Deputy Coroner Don McCown, the picture changed once the investigators began their work. “The investigators got here… as she started her assessment she realized the victim sustained a gunshot wound. At that point everybody was notified,” McCown said.

Investigators remained on Quinn Street for about five hours.

Coroner Identifies the Victim

The Anderson County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 36-year-old Kenneth Andrew Latroy Lomax and ruled his cause of death a gunshot wound. An autopsy has been scheduled to help investigators understand what happened.

Officials have described the case as a homicide investigation. No suspect has been named, and authorities have not said what may have led to the shooting.

What the Sheriff’s Office Says About Public Safety

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said the incident appears to be isolated to the residence and that there is no immediate danger to the public. The investigation remains active.

Neighbors React

Fox Carolina spoke with people working in the area, who said they recognized Lomax. Phillip Rucker said he and his crew were working on a roof nearby when Lomax was found, and that he had seen Lomax the day before.

“It’s sad you can see somebody walking today and then they gone the next day. That’s real bad,” Rucker said.

Rucker also described the moment that stayed with him. “Really what took a toll on me was standing on the side of this house and hearing his momma cry,” he said.

A Difficult Part of the Job

Lomax’s family was at the scene. McCown said that is something that never gets easier for investigators. “It’s very hard,” he said. “The hardest part comes with working with the families.”

McCown also said that deadly violence has occurred in this area before, noting there have been at least two homicides near Quinn Street in the last two years.

What Is Still Unknown

Several questions remain unanswered. Officials have not released a suspect, a motive, or details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The results of the autopsy have not been announced. The investigation is active, and the Sheriff’s Office and coroner have not said when more information will be released.
