What Happened
Portillo was driving a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer eastbound on U.S. Highway 90 near FM 1952 and Tavener Road in Fort Bend County when a 2025 Honda sedan traveling westbound crossed the center line and entered his path, according to authorities.
The collision caused Portillo’s Freightliner to overturn off the roadway. Emergency responders from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene.
The Fort Bend County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced Portillo dead at the scene.
The Other Vehicle
The Honda was being driven by a 16-year-old girl from East Bernard, with a 10-year-old boy, also from East Bernard, riding as a passenger. Both were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston with varying degrees of injury. Their current conditions have not been publicly released.
