Christina Burbano Jeffrey, 50, of Canyon Country, Killed in Four-Vehicle Crash on Soledad Canyon Road — Violinist and College of the Canyons Educator Remembered

Christina Burbano Jeffrey, a 50-year-old Canyon Country musician and educator, was killed Tuesday, September 8, 2026, when a wrong-way driver struck multiple vehicles on Soledad Canyon Road, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Two other people were hospitalized, one in critical condition.

Christina Burbano Jeffrey, 50, of Canyon Country, has been identified as the woman killed in a four-vehicle crash on Soledad Canyon Road — and the Santa Clarita community she taught and performed for is now mourning the loss of a musician who spent her career helping others find their own voice through music.

What Happened in the Canyon Country Crash

The crash happened at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday near the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Rainbow Glen Drive, according to Detective Charlie Upchurch of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Office.

Investigators say Jeffrey was driving westbound on Soledad Canyon Road when a white Honda CR-V, traveling eastbound on Rainbow Glen Drive, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck multiple vehicles. A witness reported seeing the vehicle drive the wrong way directly before the collision.

Jeffrey’s car was the third vehicle hit in the chain-reaction crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts from emergency responders.

Two other people involved in the four-vehicle collision were taken to the hospital — one in critical condition, the other in good condition, Upchurch said. Neither has been publicly identified.

Authorities have not yet said what caused the Honda to cross into oncoming lanes, and the investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the crash, including dashcam footage, is asked to contact the SCV Sheriff’s Station Traffic Office at 661-260-4000.

Who Was Christina Burbano Jeffrey?

Christina Burbano Jeffrey was known throughout the Santa Clarita area as a violinist, performer, and educator whose career spanned decades and genres. She taught violin, viola, cello, piano, and music theory, and she was part of the music faculty at College of the Canyons, where she brought both academic training and real-world performance experience into her work with students.

Her performance background was unusually wide-ranging: she played classical, church, mariachi, country, rock, and jazz music, and she worked across studio recordings, live performances, and orchestral projects. That versatility became part of what colleagues and students are now remembering most about her.

Jeffrey held a bachelor’s degree in violin performance, along with additional studies in composition, viola, piano, and voice. She went on to earn a master’s degree in ethnomusicology from Arizona State University, where her research explored Spanish-language radio and Mexican diaspora communities — bringing together performance, scholarship, and education across her career.

Community Remembers a “Wonderful Person”

Tributes have poured in from students, colleagues, and community members describing Jeffrey as a wonderful person and a gifted teacher. Many have expressed heartbreak that her life was cut short by the actions of another driver, and have sent condolences to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.

For the students she taught, Jeffrey’s influence is expected to carry forward — not just in technique, but in the broader appreciation for music she brought to every lesson.

How to Help the Investigation

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the collision — including witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage — is encouraged to contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Office at 661-260-4000.
