The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has identified the two women found dead inside a Briargate Place home, ruling that one died by homicide and the other by suicide following autopsies conducted this week.
What We Know
Greenville City Police responded to the Briargate Place residence on Saturday, September 12, 2026, after receiving a report that two people had been found deceased inside the home. Both women had suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Coroner Mike Ellis identified the victims as 26-year-old Angel Micquel Patterson and 23-year-old Kimyetta Aaliy Melton. Both women lived at the townhome where they were found.
Autopsies were performed on Tuesday, September 15, as officials worked to determine the manner of death for each woman. According to the Coroner’s Office, Melton died from multiple gunshot wounds, and her death has been ruled a homicide. Patterson died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and her death has been ruled a suicide.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office and Greenville City Police continue to investigate the case. Authorities have not released further details about what led to the deaths or the circumstances inside the home in the time leading up to them.
Remembering Kimyetta Melton
Melton’s family has begun speaking publicly about her life and the shock of her death. Speaking with WYFF News 4, Melton’s cousin, Makayla Stewart, described her as a hairstylist full of energy and ambition, with much of her life still ahead of her.
“It just feels so unreal, like, because, you know, she was just being here, I think we are really still in shock,” Stewart said. “She was funny, she would light up the room, she always had a joke. I’m going to miss her.”
