Bayern Munich 5-0 Bodø/Glimt: Musiala, Kane, Davies and Olise Brace Power Second-Half Rout in Champions League Opener

Bayern Munich began their 2026-27 Champions League campaign with a dominant 5-0 win over Bodø/Glimt at the Allianz Arena, scoring all five goals after halftime. Jamal Musiala broke the deadlock before Harry Kane, Alphonso Davies, and a Michael Olise brace completed a crushing second-half rout of last season’s surprise quarterfinalists.

Bayern Munich needed a half to find their rhythm — and once they did, there was no stopping them. Vincent Kompany’s side turned a goalless first 45 minutes into a five-goal demolition of Bodø/Glimt, announcing themselves as Champions League contenders once again.

A Frustrating First Half

Kjetil Knutsen’s Bodø/Glimt side arrived at the Allianz Arena with real pedigree, having beaten Atlético Madrid, Manchester City, and Inter Milan twice on their way to the round of 16 last season. For 45 minutes, they looked every bit capable of frustrating Bayern again.

Harry Kane had the game’s first real chance in the 10th minute, curling an effort straight at goalkeeper Nikita Haikin. Bayern controlled possession throughout the half but struggled to turn it into clear openings, with Bodø defending resolutely. Michael Olise forced a comfortable save after cutting inside, and Joshua Kimmich came closest of all, seeing a low left-footed effort cannon off the post before Musiala had a chance denied by Haikin moments later.

Bayern went into the break with 11 shots and just 1.0 expected goals to show for their dominance — a scoreline that flattered Bodø heading into the second half.

The Floodgates Open

Whatever went unsaid at halftime worked. Bayern came out for the second half with intent and broke the deadlock almost immediately, in the 47th minute, when Kane’s shot deflected into the path of Musiala, who thumped a right-footed finish into the far corner.

It was a significant moment for Musiala personally, marking his first start since collapsing twice during matches last month.

Bayern doubled their lead in the 61st minute, with Kane nodding home from an Olise cross — the England captain’s 34th career Champions League goal for Bayern, extending a scoring streak that has now reached eight straight matches in the competition. Only Robert Lewandowski, with a nine-match run also for Bayern in 2021, has gone longer.

Bodø’s night went from difficult to disastrous from there. Alphonso Davies made it 3-0 in the 77th minute with a thunderous left-footed strike from outside the box. Ten minutes later, Bodø were reduced to ten men when Odin Bjørtuft brought down Olise just outside the box, denying him a clear run at goal but picking up a red card in the process.

Olise made sure the foul didn’t go unpunished. He curled a stunning left-footed effort into the top corner from the edge of the area to make it 4-0 in the 83rd minute, then added a second of his own in stoppage time — gliding into space and clipping a finish into the same corner to complete a brace and cap off a 5-0 rout.

The Numbers Behind the Rout

The final scoreline reflected total second-half control. Bayern finished the match with 25 shots to Bodø’s three, and 2.49 expected goals against Bodø’s 0.2 — a dramatic shift from the balance of the first half. It marked the seventh time Bayern have scored four or more goals in a Champions League match since the start of last season.

Kane and Olise continue to lead the way individually. Among all players in Europe’s top five leagues, Kane now ranks first for total goal involvements in 2026 with 39 (34 goals, 5 assists), and Olise sits second with 34 (17 goals, 17 assists). Both were named on the Ballon d’Or shortlist earlier this week, and while that award only considers performances through the 2025-26 season and the World Cup, Kane’s continued Champions League scoring form does his case no harm heading forward.

What It Means

The win puts Bayern top of the early Champions League table on goal difference and sends an early statement in a competition they’ve dominated recently — only Barcelona’s 1999-2000 side and Paris Saint-Germain’s title-winning run last season have scored more goals in a single Champions League campaign than Bayern’s 43 in 2025-26, a run that ended at the semifinal stage.

For Bodø/Glimt, it’s a reminder of the gap that can still separate Europe’s giants from even the competition’s most inspired underdog stories — but with plenty of the league phase still to come, Knutsen’s side will look to bounce back in their remaining fixtures.
